Below is a current desrcription of the differences between the EVS modded 205 and the Modwright 205 mod.

EVS vs Modwright:  The Modwright mod is mostly a really great tube output stage.  By the time you have added better amplifier and rectifier tubes, etc....you are looking at about $2800 plus  for the mod.  We do believe in great output stages and our solid state output stage is super pure, transparent and simple and powered from separate fully discrete modified regulators.  However, we do tons of other stuff that also improves the sound.  Every single thing we do makes the sound better or we would not do it.  Here is a list of things in the fully balanced $1600 all out stereo EVS mod that are not in the Modwright mod:

1.  Replace the switching power supply with a linear power supply for better sound and picture.
2.  Remove the toslink connector....it is an LED and they mess up the sound.
3.  Damp the heatsink on the main audio processor.  Warmer and cleaner sound.
4.  Seriously damp the disc cover and mounting pads of the transport with constrained layer damping material.
5.  Seriously damp the disc spinner with a piece of constrained layer damping material....very important.
6.  Black the underside of the disc cover and all around the laser mechanism and the disc tray using flat black paint.
7.  Mount the toroidal power transformer for the analog DAC and output stages off the chassis on a piece of quarter inch thick wood.
8.  Change the rectifying diodes on the analog power supply board to better sounding audiophile types.
9.  Change the regulator on the analog power supply to the ESS DAC to a modified discrete regulator and use seriously great sounding modded Wima caps in the power supply.
10. Change the heatsink on the DAC chip to a better sounding one.
11. Change parts in the clock supply for better sound.
12. We hand make our own wires for the power supply and output that are better than most any wire you can buy.  These wires are listened to and put in the sonically best direction.....some wire are also damped.
13. We use super transparent parts....paralleled resistors, damped Elna Simlic II caps, modded Wima caps, Amtrans copper foil caps.....all film caps tested for outside foil and used the the sonically best way.
